FFRF and FFRFMCC Kick Off New Year With Science-Themed Billboard in Chicago
Through tremendous help from the national Freedom From Religion Foundation, the Metropolitan Chicago Chapter is proud to bring a secular advertising campaign back to Chicago. FRFMCC Executive Director Tom Cara worked closely with national FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor to begin 2021 with its third billboard campaign since the chapter’s founding in 2012.
The artwork, designed with assistance from Clear Channel Outdoor Media, features a striking image of Charles Darwin wearing FFRF’s “In Science I Trust” face mask next to the message: “In Science We Trust. Please Stay Safe.” It combines FFRF’s pro-science thrust with a celebration of Darwin Day, which takes place each year on February 12th, the birthdate of the scientific genius. The 14-by-48-foot display is located on Lincoln Avenue near Foster Avenue in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood and was initially contracted to run from February 1st-28th. However, we are happy to report the billboard is receiving some bonus coverage, as Clear Channel was gracious enough to post our advertisement four days early on Thursday, January 28th.
This new billboard is timely in two ways. First, to encourage everyone to help keep us all safe by trusting in science, not superstition, and to mask up! Second, to give science the respect it deserves by honoring the birthday of Charles Darwin on February. During this critical time in our history, it is imperative we recognize the outstanding contributions from those in the science and medical fields who are working so hard to put this pandemic behind us.
Happy Darwin Day 2021!
