Greetings Everyone,
As the FFRFMCC is now an official chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, and with the Winter Solstice season approaching, we feel a celebration is certainly in order!
Please mark your calendars for our next chapter social event which will take place on Saturday, December 1st from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. The event will be held at the Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago, 7574 N. Lincoln Ave. in Skokie.
We will begin in the Community Room with a “Pot Luck” luncheon, where everyone is encouraged to bring a favorite dish or dessert to share. Either homemade or store bought will be fine. Beverages will be provided, as will paper plates, napkins, plastic cups and forks. But if your dish requires a serving utensil, it would be helpful to bring one along.
After our meal, we will then cap off the afternoon with an exciting movie in the Auditorium. The film will be “The Ledge,” a intense drama about a heroic atheist who falls in love with the wife of an unstable fundamentalist evangelical man, and is then put to the ultimate test of his non-belief. This independent feature film was directed by Matthew Chapman, who also happens to be the great, great grandson of Charles Darwin!
The film was was highly recommended by the folks at FFRF, and for those who have yet to see it, we know you’ll enjoy it. And those who already have are likely to enjoy it again! For more information about the film, feel free to click on the following link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1535970/
If anyone would like to bring children to this event, and because “The Ledge ” is rated R, we will also be showing a supervised kid-friendly movie in the EHS library!
And those who would prefer to remain in the Community Room to enjoy good conversation after the meal instead of watching the film, are most welcome to do so.
A $5.00 per person fee (except for children) is required to help pay for the building rental, and can be payable on the day of the event.
